The Millennium Development Goals
Project in the state has executed various projects in Bauchi, Itas-Gadau and
Tafawa-Balewa Local Government areas under the Two Thousand and Twelve
conditional grant scheme to improve the wellbeing of the people.
Speaking during an assessment tour
of the projects executed during the period under review, the monitoring and
evaluation officer of the MDG’s in the state Alhaji Muhammed Lawal Bello, said
the projects were executed in line with the MDG’s commitment to improve
the living condition of communities.
While at Mashema cottage hospital,
Alhaji Muhammad Lawal said prior to the MDG’s intervention, the newly
constructed hospital has been facing security threats because it was
constructed without fence, stressing that the hospital is now fenced and a new
gate constructed at the entrance.
He said under the 2012
conditional grant scheme, MDG’s has constructed two new cottage hospitals
in Bununu and Yuguda as well as the renovation of Mashema Primary School in
Itas-Gadau Local Government area.
The MDG’s monitoring and evaluation
officer further said referral ambulances were provided at Yuguda and Bununu as
well as medical equipment to enhance their operations.
While at the 150 bed Bununu and
Yuguda cottage hospitals, Alhaji Lawal commended the contractors for the
quality of job executed and called on the benefitting communities to guard the
facilities from vandalisation.
He used the visit to describe the
2012 conditional grant scheme of the MDG’s as a huge success and thanked the
state government for its support which has greatly contributed in the successes
recorded so far.
Responding on behalf of Itas Gadau
community, the Headmaster of Mashema central Primary school Malam Ali Buba,
said the school’s building was renovated and provided with furniture to enhance
teaching and learning.
He used the occasion to call
on parents in the area to utilize the opportunity by sending their wards to
school.
